Am I an employee or a contractor?

Sitters on The Village Co are independent contractors, not employees of The Village Co.

What this means in practice:

• You choose when you work and which bookings you accept
• You set your own rate
• You are responsible for your own tax obligations
• You do not receive holiday pay, sick pay, or KiwiSaver contributions from The Village Co
• You invoice through the platform automatically — no paperwork required

Tax considerations:

• If you earn over $14,000 per year from contracting, you may need to file a tax return
• If you earn over $60,000 per year, you may need to register for GST
